Adding a UV sterilizing component to your RO system is a great way to minimize any type of living contaminates in your drinking water. It is capable of killing bacteria, microorganism and even viruses with nothing more than a specific wavelength (245nm) of light. No chemicals needed.
This video walks through the differences in types of UV components used in residential RO including always-on traditional units, flow switch activated traditional units, and two new LED UV components from iSpring and WaterDrop.
TLDR: LED is a better option for you if your flow rate is under 1 gallon per minute. Higher flow rates require higher dosages of UV and the components must increase in size and power to stay effective.
