Herreros, or Spanish blacksmiths, were highly valued members of Spanish expeditions to New Mexico. Their most common function was to shoe horses and repair armor, firearms, and small tools. Local blacksmith, Dave Sabo, is skilled in the traditional methods of herreros. Watch Dave work the forge as he describes early iron manufacturing and blacksmithing practices used in colonial New Mexico.
