Kerala folk dance forms are abound in dualisms and polarities, all inspired from the various religious and cultural communities that harmoniously coexists. This composition is inspired from three such distinctly different dance forms – Margamkali. , Tiruvathira kali and Oppana
Margamkali is an ancient art form prevalent among Christians. With firm hand postures, a bunch of dancers swiftly prance around a lamp in a coordinated circular movement.
Tiruvathira kali is a popular dance form performed during Hindu festivals. A large group of female dancers glide around the dance floor gracefully with fluid legwork and delicate hand gestures.
Oppana is a high energy bridal dance performed the day before a Muslim wedding . The rhythmic clapping of the hands in synch with the simple yet brisk footwork is the highlight of Oppana .
Shalima Sidhik has eloquently choreographed this dance to celebrate the overwhelming buoyancy of spirit and unity among the various cultures of Kerala.
We now present to you, a rendition empowered by the synergy of these three delightful feminine dances from our God's own country !
