Ted Gärdestad was a Swedish singer, songwriter, and musician who rose to fame in the 1970s. Born on February 18, 1956, in Sollentuna, Sweden, Gärdestad began his music career at a young age, writing songs and performing with his brother Kenneth.

He gained widespread recognition with his debut album "Ted Gärdestad" in 1973, which featured hits like "Himlen är oskyldigt blå" ("The Sky Is Innocently Blue") and "Sol, vind och vatten" ("Sun, Wind, and Water"). His music was known for its catchy melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and his distinctive voice.

Gärdestad's popularity continued throughout the 1970s with several successful albums and singles. He represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979 with the song "Satellit" ("Satellite"). Although he didn't win, the song became a hit in Sweden.

Despite his success as a musician, Gärdestad struggled with mental health issues throughout his life, including depression and bipolar disorder. Tragically, he died by suicide on June 22, 1997, at the age of 41. His music continues to be beloved in Sweden, and he is remembered as one of the country's most talented singer-songwriters.
