Jika kita melihat orang-orang Yahudi di internet, TV, media dan sebagainya pastinya kita melihat mereka memakai pakaian yang seragam. Hampir semuanya memakai jas hitam panjang dan topi bundar (fedora). Tidak hanya itu, mereka juga memanjangkan dan menjalin jambang-jambang mereka.

Sebenarnya tidak semua Yahudi memanjangkan jambangnya, melainkan hanya Yahudi Orthodox sesuai interpretasi mereka atas intruksi yang ada dalam Torah. Dan juga ada perbedaan style antara sekte Heredi, Yemenite dan Hasidic. ajaran Yahudi juga mengatur cara berpakaian dengan sebutan Kosher. 

Jambang ini oleh Yahudi disebut dengan Peyot. Kata peyot, yang juga disebut pe'ot, pe'at, payot, adalah bentuk jamak dari pe'ah. Kata pe'ah artinya sudut atau samping. Orang Yahudi Yemenite menyebutnya dengan istilah simanin/simonim yang secara harfiah artinya tanda-tanda (signs), karena jambang rambut tepi yang panjang merupakan ciri yang membedakan mereka dengan masyarakat muslim Yaman.
