What is Everyone Knows That (Ulterior Motives) Lost Media? Lostwave? Vaporwave? Hypnagogic Pop? whatever you want to call it since the dawn of the modern internet over a decade ago this odd, bizarre genre of music has captivated the public with its ethereal, floating, untethered nature present in the music. The tape hiss, the sampling of 80s corporate commercials again there really is nothing like this genre. I previously covered the phenomenon surrounding the song “Like The Wind” popularly known as “The Most Mysterious song on the internet.” The mystery of that song took place across decades and included numerous unexpected twists turns spanning brazil, Germany, and the USA.
And now here we are again with yet ANOTHER piece of fantastic lost wave known as “Everyone Knows that (Ulterior Motives)” The song appeared about 2 years back, and ever since then this brief 20 second clip has tantalized the internet as it tries to hunt down its origin. 80s pop song? TV Commercial? 00s hypnagogia? It could be any and all of these things. So join me (yet again) was we take a deep lostwave/lost media dive on the story to this point of “Everyone Knows That (Ulterior Motives)”
