For Golden Week in Japan, I went to check out another one of the Three Views of Japan (日本三景) at Amanohashidate (天橋立). This northern Kyoto peninsula features a breathtaking chairlift experience overlooking the surrounding area. There are actually two chairlifts: one from Kasamatsu Park, and the other from Amanohashidate Viewland. Although I went from Kasamatsu Park, I’d recommend trying it from Amanohashidate Viewland since it appears that is the more popular one.

Just a 50 minute bus ride away from Amanohashidate, is probably the most peaceful fishing village in Japan, Ine (伊根). The boat houses, called Funaya (舟屋), encompass the entire Bay, making for a scenic seaside atmosphere. Honestly, was more surprised by how BLUE the water was. Do not miss out on seeing this too if you are in the area!

Both are accessible by bus from Kyoto station (~2 hrs), and can be reserved online at Willer Express for ¥3100 one way.
