Newsweek Deputy Opinion Editor Batya Ungar-Sargon has revealed what led to the “unwokening” of her political views.

“The first moment that I had an inkling that there was something wrong with my worldview was when I encountered a 2018 study,” she told Sky News host Rita Panahi.

She said the study found a difference between the way white liberals and white conservatives talk to people of colour.

“When a white liberal encounters a Black person or a Hispanic person, they dumb down their vocabulary and white conservatives don’t do this.

“I remember thinking to myself –we call them the racists?”
