The second mustang from the New York clinic... each of the 10 different horses (mainly mustangs) had 45 minute sessions. Some horses I went in with, some I just coached from the outside. I'd love to share their sessions with you!

This mustang is food motivated, willing, but is super guarded. His defense is to kick, and he has a fine line between kicking/striking and attempting to run through a panel. He struggles with increased pressure. The goals for today were to manage kicking/defensiveness, improve groundwork, respect, desensitizing, and working towards a farrier visit. I mainly had the owner work with this horse, I thought it would be more beneficial to coach her through it than me go in the pen.

My idea of what he needed help with shifted when I watched his body language. He needed to be acknowledged for small communication efforts or tries. This was probably my favorite session.

Mojave, 6yo gelding from the Centennial California HMA.
