Sea kayaking outside Gävle around Limön island! Exploring a new archipelago, paddling from Gävle city and meeting up with my friend ‪@danerik.westerlind‬ , who paddled to our meeting location from a launch spot on land closer to the island. We paddled on the Baltic Sea and went hiking on the island Limön, exploring the lighthouse - actually two lighthouses on the island, and more! September 7th, 2024.

Safety notes: The PFD on deck is for another paddler during a night kayaking event later the same evening. I recorded some notes on the long passage, almost 5 km, on the way to our meeting location, kayaking northwest from Gävle, during the paddle - these will likely be shown in another video showing that passage. I don't recommend paddlers to go far out from land beyond their experience, skillset, and based on the conditions. In this case, I was typically 1-1,5 km from land on the north (left) side of me, I was confident in the kayak and its multiple air tubes and my ability to self rescue in it, the weather was completely calm with the only waves on the water usually originating from passing boat traffic; I was parallel to but outside of a waterway with frequent waterway that could assist if I were to get into trouble, and the sound of a whistle would carry far over the water on such a calm day. It was still warm enough in the water and very warm and calm in the air. Even in these conditions, I would only recommend for experienced paddlers to go this far from land, as you always need to weigh risks and potential scenarios, including a capsize.
