Back in 2012 a group of us took two 1943 jeeps on a most ambitious trip following routes used by The Long Range Desert Group in World War 2. Leaving Cairo, Egypt, we headed southwest on 'Blacktop' to Baharia, then covered 1200 miles of desert as far south as The Gilf el Kebir, then back north through The Great Sand Sea to Siwa and on to Alexandria. It was a fantastic trip that will probably never be attempted again due to internal hostilities in the area of desert we negotiated.
