Rob Brost takes you through 3 drills from his Man Left Defense series that has helped make his Bolingbrook team one of the premier teams in the Midwest. Man Left Defense is a version of the Force Left Defense (or Lock Left Defense) that Rob Brost created specifically for high school and middle school teams.

Coach Brost explains how keeping the ball on the left side of the floor results in lower percentage shots for your opponent. In doing so, your players develop an aggressive mindset that dictates what the offense can and can’t do. The 3 drills show how to implement 3 important parts of the Man Left: closeouts on the ball, transitioning between being on the ball and 1 pass away, and how to incentivize players to lock the ball left.

This YouTube Video covers:

1 - How to position yourself 1 pass away to the left of the ball to be ready to “fake & fade”
2 - The proper stance when 1 pass away to the right of the ball
3 - How to position your feet when guarding the ball in the left ⅓ of the court
4 - The importance of communication in the Man Left
5 - How to create scoring systems that encourage your players to force left
6 - A closeout drill to guide the ball to the left baseline
7 - An angles drill that shows how to transition between on the ball defense and 1 pass away defense
8 - A small sided game that will have your players competing intensely to execute Man Left principles

The Man Left’s strength is its ability to make your opponent play to their weaknesses. And now’s a great time to lock in on forcing left.
