In todays video we will be talking you with us as we explore an abandoned hospital located just outside of Chicago Illinois. The hospital, known as Westlake hospital, was suddenly closed down and then ended up in controversy as it was also eventually sued by the residents and the municipality for making broken promises to keep the hospital open.
Westlake hospitals origins date all the way back to 1927 but began to run into financial troubles after being sold to another parent medical company in 2018. That parent company purchased the hospital and promised the community members and stakeholders that they had plans to keep the hospital open and even expand the facility programs. However, those plans were soon abandoned, no pun intended, as in 2019, only a year after they bought the hospital, they announced that they were now bankrupt and closing down westlake hospital was a absolute necessity to save money. The local citizens and the city taxpayers were outraged by the broken promise and in turn, came together and filed a lawsuit. By 2021, the city actually won the lawsuit and in addition to that good news, the hospital was sold again to another medical group and since they took over ownership last year, they have been working tirelessly to get the hospital back up to code and to hopefully to reopen it sometime in 2023.
As of 2023, the once abandoned westlake hospital is being renovated slowly but surely. Nearly all of the medical equipment has been auctioned off as currently abatement is underway. It will be rather interesting to see what happens with the former westlake hospital.
And that’s going to take us to the end of the todays video on westlake hospital that was closed due to bankruptcy and then sued for broken promises.
