This first episode sees us enjoying belated summer weather with a belated birthday celebration for Sue! We set off for a couple of days in The Cotswolds and one of our favourite places to visit, the beautiful, idyllic village of Castle Combe. We stayed there a few years ago on our way back from our Devon and Dorset tour and always promised ourselves a stay at the magnificent Manor House Hotel when we had a special occasion to celebrate. Sue's daughter Jen and her fiancé had bought Sue an overnight stay as a birthday present and since the weather was set fair it seemed a perfect time to use it.
Our route to the Cotswolds included a coffee stop at our usual haunt The Deddington Arms hotel and then another break at The Cotswolds Airport - a lovely local airport with a great cafe where you can enjoy all the aviation activity over a coffee.
The weather was stunning and very hot as we arrived at The Manor House and we hoped that the hotel would live up to our expectations. Well, it certainly did! The room was magnificent and the service outstanding. The only disappointment on the whole experience was an our dinner at the local pub - but next time we'll definitely book the chef's taster menu at The Manor.
Castle Combe is rightfully recognised as one of the prettiest villages in England and has been used so many times as a location for film and TV series that the locals petitioned to against it being used again! It's a stunning place to wander around and has a timeless quality, if you've never been we can highly recommend it.
