This caterpillar is one of the few sculptures I've made which uses digital motion control. It has servo motors and a rasberry pi. First I figured out the math and made a file with a quarter million angles that corresponds to the position of the caterpillar at different times. Then I made a woodpile to fit the math. This video is sped up 5 times. With it's true speed the caterpillar takes 8 minutes to traverse the woodpile.
