The traditional process often begins with an introduction (kanyo nyombo), where the families of the bride and groom meet. This meeting is important to build relations between both families and confirm that the two are serious about getting married.

Afterward, the Ayie process is done. This is where the groom's family officially asks for the bride’s hand in marriage and negotiates the bride's price (dowry). The dowry is traditionally paid in livestock (cows, goats, sheep), though modern families may negotiate money or a combination of both.

If these two families agree, the wedding is done.

The wedding itself is called Nyombo.

During this event, the groom’s family brings the dowry to the bride’s family, and blessings are given. The elders from both families are heavily involved, and there may be symbolic rituals such as sharing food, slaughtering animals, and prayers.
