This post is a response to a question I have been asked
about being a widowed parent

The question was
how has the transition been and
what life has been like
during the early months
after the passing of my wife?

My wife's death
also resulted in a
number of secondary losses,
including the loss of
shared parental responsibilities.


As I transitioned into my new life as a
widowed parenting,
I've found great support
from my close family and friends.

I had an
ongoing conflict with
my inner self, especially
during the months when
I had a great deal of support.

I felt like a failure.
I felt like a burden.
I was even more depressed
at the thought that I had made
people take time out of their
lives to care for us.


These emotions and thoughts were
not fuelled by anything they said or did.
I felt the urge to compel myself to get
some 'grip' and get on with this part of
life as a widowed parent.

I am extremely grateful to our support network of family and friends.
They have worked
tirelessly to be
present in our lives.

Their selflessness will
remain in my heart forever.


In this post, You will see how my support network of family and friends helped me to transition into my new life as a widowed parent, some of the conflicts I have had to deal with, and my coping strategies.
