"Be Thou My Vision" is a traditional Christian hymn of Irish origin. The words are based on a Middle Irish poem with the best-known English version translated in 1905 by Mary Elizabeth Byrne. Since 1919 it has been commonly sung to an Irish folk tune, noted as "SLANE" in church hymnals.

More Info: "Be Thou My Vision" (Old Irish: Rop tú mo baile or Rob tú mo bhoile) is an 8th century Irish poem that was translated by Eleanor Hull in 1912. Today the hymn is sung to the Irish folk tune "Slane" (which is actually a village in Ireland). This song is rooted in medieval Celtic Christianity and has grown in popularity due to many Christian artists covering the hymn on recent albums. It is believed that the original poem may have been written by Saint Dallán Forgaill, an Irish saint who experienced blindness later in life.
