Oyamatsumi Shrine is located on Omishima Island in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture.
It is the head shrine of all Mishima shrines in Japan.
There are many camphor trees in the precincts of the shrine, and it is designated as a national natural monument.
Since ancient times, Oyamazumi Shrine has been revered by successive imperial courts and military commanders as the god of mountains, the god of the sea, and the god of battle, as many famous military commanders, including Minamoto no Yoritomo and Taira no Kiyomori, dedicated their armaments and prayed for their military fortune,
The shrine is home to about 80% of Japan's armors designated as national treasures and important cultural properties.

The shrine has been visited by leading political and military figures such as Hirobumi Ito and Isoroku Yamamoto, and even today, the shrine is visited and revered by the top brass of the Maritime Self Defense Force and Japan Coast Guard.
