Lohagad is one of the most famous and iconic forts located in lonavala. In monsoon this fort has amazing views along with lush greenery and also the fortification is marvellous. We travelled by train in the morning from Mumbai to Lonavala, which again was one of the best experiences to travel in monsoon. The fort has many things to offer as it is a very well maintained fort. The trek is very easy and also you can come with your family as well. There is one more fort beside lohagad known as Visapur fort. Visapur fort is known for its trekking purpose, whereas Lohagad is known for its Fortification. The trek is almost 1 hour and when you reach the top you can experience the beautiful pawna lake view. The fort has many elements on the top from which you can get to know the history. Also you can spend a very good time over here exploring and enjoying the view. Best time to visit this fort is monsoon.

Lohagad is one of the many hill forts of Maharashtra state in India. Situated close to the hill station Lonavala and 52 km (32 mi) northwest of Pune, Lohagad rises to an elevation of 1,033 m (3,389 ft) above sea level. The fort is connected to the neighbouring Visapur fort by a small range. The fort was under the Maratha empire for the majority of the time, with a short period of 5 years under the Mughal empire.

Lohagad has a long history with several dynasties occupying it at different periods of time: Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas, Bahamanis, Nizams, Mughals and Marathas. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured it in 1648 AD, but he was forced to surrender it to the Mughals in 1665 AD by the Treaty of Purandar. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj recaptured the fort in 1670 AD and used it for keeping his treasury. This fort was used to keep the winnings from Surat. Later in Peshwa time Nana Phadnavis used this fort for living for some time and built several structures in the fort such as a big tank and a step-well.
