Thirty-six kilometers away from Almora in the east-north direction, Jageshwar is a group of one hundred and twenty-four small and big temples in the valley of dense deodar trees. There are Deodar trees here, hence it is called 'Darukavan'. It got the name of 'Yageshwar' due to the yoga of yogis, then here it got the name 'Hateshwar' because of the greatness of Shivratri and the greatness of earth worship in Savan and the celebration of the fairs held in these festivals.

To the north of the Jageshwar temple group are dense forests of Banj, Buransh and Kafal. Here, walking a distance of four kilometers on the footpath climbing up, changing them at every edge, that very delightful picturesque place at the height where Shivju is worshiped in the form of Vishnu. Legend has it that while going to war, Chand Raja saw at this place that a cow was giving milk on a rock. On coming closer, he found that there is a self-manifested Shivling. The king worshiped at that place and kept it high. He promised that after winning the war, he would establish a temple here. Thereafter, Lord Vishnu worshiped the self-manifested Shivling at this place. There is a specific tradition of being done as.

Nearest Airport is Pantnagar. The distance between Mukteshwar & Pantnagar is about 100 kms. You can find a taxi to reach Almora. Flights can be found on a daily basis.

By Train
Kathgodam Railway Station is the nearest railway station.This railway station is well connected to other major cities i.e. Delhi, Lucknow & Kolkata. From here you can find cabs to complete your journey.

By Road
Bus Stand of Almora is connected to cities of Kumaun & other cities in the North. Buses can be taken from ISBT, Anand Vihar to Haldwani. Luxury buses & private buses are also available through the route for reliable services.
