When she was growing up, Simone Federman didn’t have an easy relationship with her mother, who frowned upon her tomboy appearance and, at one point, even pressured her to get a nose job to attract men - and this did not change after Simone came out. Ultimately, it took a near fatal battle with cancer for her mother to see how much love Simone had in her life.
