In PNG, the way people consume media is constantly evolving in our increasingly digitalised world. These changes can help increase access to media and facilitate engagement with important public issues, but some members of society are adversely impacted by this shift.
This animation, created by Al MacInnes for the Media Development Initiative (MDI), provides a snapshot of the recent 2023 Citizen Media Engagement Study by outlining how vulnerable groups are represented in the media, and how geography sometimes impacts individuals’ abilities to engage with issues that matter to them.
A more detailed outline of how people in PNG access media and use it to engage with issues that matter to them is available in the full 2023 Citizen Media Engagement Report.
