Did you ever feel that you were not living a genuine life, that you were going through the motions, missing that deep connection to your soul?

About 17 years ago this happened to me. I went on a quest with a good friend looking for the perfect place to recreate a surrounding and living experience that I had been longing for. I traveled to many South American Countries and Mexico. After a a year long quest, I finally decided to settle in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, and I have been here ever since. Granted my husband and I have a home in California and travel to Europe for two or three months every year, but I call Mexico home.

It was my desire to share an adventure with my students in an exotic place that would leave them with memories for the rest of their lives. So, we spent a year looking for the perfect location to create an artist’s retreat. That story is for another time, but the magical place was found in the Jungle along the Cuale River in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was a magical place! Don’t get me wrong, living in the jungle is not an easy task and an entire book could be written about the adventures of a jungle life, but that is for another time.

What came out of it for me, was a fulfilling of my soul like I never would have expected. An entire collection of works came from that experience that I call the “Jungle Spirits”, both scenes of spirits in the trees, to portraits of the”Jungle Spirits”. I could hear them each night falling asleep to their whispers.

As I was organizing my videos and photos today I came across these images of my art studio in the jungle which, even now, takes my breath away. The memories of painting in that space are enchanting lingering visions. Sharing that space with my inspired and excited students, was magic.

It would be my hope for you, as an inspired artist, that you create a space that supports you creatively, spiritually, and emotionally. You and your work will thank your lucky stars if you can find that sweet spot in your being and mimic it in what you surround yourself with. Happy space and happy painting to you.
