The use of Quantum computers is rapidly growing and the potential applications are vast. There are applications in material and drug design, logistics optimization, as well as financial risk analysis and pricing. The requirements needed for quantum hardware to achieve a potential advantage for these applications are not always fully understood.

Dr. Stefan Woerner joins Rethinc. Labs Faculty Director Eric Ghysels to outline classical computational challenges appearing in the financial services sector. He discusses where quantum computing may provide an advantage, and what requirements this imposes on the quantum hardware. Drawing from examples achieved jointly from their IBM Quantum partners from the financial industry, Dr. Woerner presents results with a focus on application-driven benchmarks in order to understand the roadmap towards real quantum advantage for applications.
