David Leo Hyde recently sparked a worldwide debate on intern rights after sleeping in a tent in Geneva while working as an unpaid intern for the United Nations. In his speech, while directly addressing some organizations, David explains why it is our moral duty to ensure that this unequal system comes to an end.

David Leo Hyde is a youth activist and filmmaker from Aotearoa, New Zealand. After resigning from his internship at the UN, his actions form the key piece of an upcoming film, titled “An Unpaid Act”, (directed by Swiss filmmaker, Nathalie Berger) which will examine how young people across the world are being exploited as cheap or free labor.
