Cerro Botella Azul is the 2nd tallest peak in the San Pedro Mártir Mountains of Baja California as well as the 2nd tallest peak on the entire Baja Peninsula. The summit elevation of 9,646 feet gives you an amazing view where, on a clear day, you can see to both the Gulf of California to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. This hike, while much easier than its taller neighbor, Picacho Del Diablo, is still a very difficult hike not to be taken lightly. This hike was 15 miles round-trip with 2200 feet of total elevation gain (most of which is in the last 2 miles) and over a mile of off trail hiking requiring some scrambling and route finding. This peak is in a very remote national park with no cell service and no towns, stores, or gas stations for over 2.5 hours in any direction. This area is very beautiful and reminded me alot of the southern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Enjoy!
