We might sneer about now, but before Murdoch got his greedy paws on it, MySpace was THE pioneering force that facilitated the DIY explosion for musicians. Not only was it one of the first social networking sites, but it was the first to allow musicians to post their own music for all the world to hear. You no longer needed a record label in order to get your music into the public domain.
