'The literal translation of Yamabushi is "yama", meaning mountain, and "bushi", meaning “bowing down”. So a Yamabushi is a mountain priest or a novice'.

On our self-guided Kumano Kodo tours, you can add on this experience and spend time walking with a Yamabushi ascetic monk to further enrich your experience! https://www.okujapan.com/region/kuman...
