‪@RoadsRivers‬ travels on into Oregon and Washington with some awesome adventures on exciting rivers and big mountains. Follow Chris as he paddles the McKenzie and North Santiam rivers and climbs the Cascades volcano, Mt.Adams.
Packrafting these whitewater rivers during the Spring run-off means the volume is up and the flow is pushy. The McKenzie river in particular was unrelenting with no opportunities for eddying out. Class 2/3 rapids all the way.
Paddling the North Santiam river with friends allowed me to tackle some more adventurous whitewater, class 3 rapids.
Mt.Adams is not the tallest but is the largest of the Cascades volcanos and the easiest route to the summit is by the South Climb, nevertheless it's still a bit of an endurance test in that it is a 6 mile hike with 7000 feet of elevation gain. At the summit I saw a 'Brocken Spectre' - a circular rainbow.
A fascinating side trip to the Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River split the adventures between these two States. Fish ladders, spillway, lamprey eels, salmon, turbines, Columbia Dam.
