江戸初期より水戸藩に伝わる藩外不出の組居合 "新田宮流抜刀術"。幕末には水戸武士の業として、薩摩武士の示顕流と共に恐れられていました。現在は唯一、水戸東武館に伝えられています。

"Shin-Tamiya-Ryu-Battoujutsu" is a kind of old style swordplay school. It was forbidden to flow out of the domain of Mito (Ibaraki), and has been passed on about 400 years. In the end of Edo period, Mito-bushi (samurai) who learned Shin-Tamiya-Ryu was afraid from others, same as Satsuma (Kagoshima)-bushi who learned Jigen-Ryu.
Now Shin-Tamiya-Ryu is handed down only Mito-Tohbukan.
