DIY tips: How to set deck posts for a backyard deck project

Typically, I set the band joists, then the beam, then the deck posts go in under the beam on top of the footings.

Two conditions on this project make my typical method not the best move:
1. It’s low to the ground.
2. I need space to import gravel with my tractor.

To maintain egress, I made an angle brace from strapping (furring strips) and set it parallel to my string line.

Then I was able to drop the posts exactly where I wanted them and hold the posts plumb while I back filled the holes.

Now, I’m ready for gravel and have a new method for setting deck posts alone.
