This video shows the process Projectile uses to perform air cooled condenser cleaning. Air cooled condensers have become more popular since they drastically cut down on the amount of water needed to operate a steam turbine power unit. The air cooled condensers take the place of a traditional shell and tube condenser as well as replacing the need for a cooling tower. These units have some unique maintenance challenges for cleaning. Air cooled condensers are extremely large and, because of this, any cleaning technique needs to utilize an automated method in order to efficiently clean the condenser coils. Projectile's air cooled condenser cleaning system uses a rail system with an automated feeder that pushes the nozzle carriage to the top of the air cooled condenser. This makes the cleaning process very effective and consistent across the whole condenser. This design also allows for a safer cleaning process because operators do not need to climb to the top of the air cooled condenser to manually clean the fins. The cleaning process uses a pumping system that pushes high volume low pressure water into the fins for cleaning. High volume water is the best to use for cleaning air cooled condenser units because removing the fouling is done by weighing down the debris with water. The water pressure helps to remove the debris, but should not be too high as high pressure water can damage the fins.

Projectile's process and equipment can be utilized on any type of air cooled condenser. We can clean the condensers during an outage or while the unit is online. Our crews are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week and can support any type of schedule.
