Frequently Asked Questions:

1.) Which hair dyes did you use again?

I used Splat hair dye in "Lusty Lavender" mixed with Punky Color in "Plum" and Manic Panic in "Rockabilly Blue". The black dye was a box dye from the supermarket.

2.) Will this purple hair dye show up on my dark hair without bleach?

If your hair is dark brown or black, this purple dye will NOT show up well without bleach. It'll simply be a purple tint in sunlight. Your hair MUST be medium brown or lighter for this dye to show up at all. It's like a purple stain. A purple stain doesn't show up on a dark canvas. Therefore, if your hair is dark, you must lighten it beforehand. Yes, you may need to bleach it like Sydney did!

3.) How long does the purple hair dye last?

The dye is semi-permanent and is supposed to last 2-4 weeks. However, the longevity of hair dye varies from person to person, so be prepared.

4.) Is this purple hair dye permanent?

No, it is semi-permanent. Read the answer to the question above.

5.) Where can I buy this purple hair dye?

You can buy Splat at most supermarkets, including H.E.B., Target, and Walgreens.

You can buy Punky Color at ULTA and online.

You can buy Manic Panic at Sally's Beauty Supply and online.

6.) How much does the purple hair dye cost?

$8 to $10 for all 3 brands

7.) My hair is dyed a different color at the moment. Can I apply this purple hair dye over it? Will it turn purple?

If your hair is dyed a different color, fade it as much as you can before applying the purple dye. If your hair is dyed a natural color with a box dye (for example, black), remove it with a color remover. ColorFix and Color Oops are reliable color removers. If your hair is dyed a semi-permanent bright color (for example, Manic Panic pink), strip it with dandruff shampoo and hot water. Also try the vitamin C treatment (it worked for me!). Look it up online. :)

8.) How do I remove this purple hair dye? For school, work, etc.

Give yourself a window of a couple weeks to fade this hair color. Then strip it with dandruff shampoo and hot water. Also try the vitamin C treatment (it worked for me!). Look it up online. If your hair is still slightly stained after stripping it, you may have to dye it back to your natural color.

9.) What color was Sydney's hair to start off with? Was it virgin hair?

Sydney's hair was dark brown. However, she dyed it red a couple of months before this video. So when we applied the black and the purple, her hair was a faded brassy color. In other words, no, her hair was not virgin.

10.) How do I make my hair dye last longer?

Shower in cold water, use a color-protection shampoo, wash your hair less often (I know, gross, but dry shampoo works in a pinch), and refresh your color. When I say refresh, I mean keep a tub of your hair dye in the shower, and apply it like a conditioner every couple of weeks. Then wash it out after 5-10 minutes. It'll help boost your color. :)

11.) Is there a purple dye available for DARK hair without pre-bleaching?

As far as I know, there aren't any bright purple dyes that work without pre-bleaching dark hair. What you're searching for is a hi-lift dye (a dye that turns dark hair a bright color without pre-bleaching). The only hi-lift dye I've seen for a crazy hair color is Loreal Hicolor Hilights in "Red". I have never seen a hi-lift dye in purple. Basically, if you want bright purple hair, you have to lighten your dark hair first.
