This is a short guide for catching Furcacauda in FFXIV using the Lv.100 ability, Modest Lure. See description for more information on the method at a deeper level.

📋Window Prep
Arrive early to Lethe and cast out with Sky Spoon Lure. Use Modest Lure 3 times (or until you see "you have a feeling your next cast will be a small sized fish). Reel in any ! bites, and if it's an Isle Skipper, use Surface Slap and Chum then wait for the window to open.

If it's not a ! bite (or it's not Isle Skipper), just cast back out and repeat using Modest Lure until you get the Isle Skipper -- it really shouldn't take too long.

⌚Furcacauda and the Split Window
Furcacauda has what fisher’s have come to call a “split window.” This is a window which has a time condition that straddles a weather transition at 00, 08, or 16, meaning that it can’t ever be up for the full time condition; the weather condition means its window will either start or end when the weather transition happens.

Specifically for Furcacauda, its window can start at 15:30 or 16:00, depending on when it's going to be Umbral Window. If it's Umbral Wind from 8-16, then its window is 15:30 to 16:00. If it's Umbral Wind from 16:00 to 00, then its window is from 16:00-16:30. This is important to know for utilizing this method!

🎣Catching Furcacauda
When it is 2 eorzean minutes before Furcacauda's window (so, either 15:28 or 15:58) cast out and use Modest Lure TWICE, then wait until 1 eorzean minute after the window (so at 15:31 or 16:01) to use the third Modest Lure. Wait for a fish to bite (which with Chum will be 5 seconds after you use the third Modest) - if it's a ! or !! bite, use Rest, cast out, and use Modest Lure 3 more times (or until you see "You have a feeling your next cast will be a small sized fish!") and then wait again for the next bite.

If it's a !!! bite, use Hook to attempt to Furcacauda.

📈Why is this method better than Slap + Chum?
With each stack of Modest Lure, the chance of any fish in a fishing hole which can be caught with Precision Hookset goes up, with 3 being the maximum increase. This increase is (far as we know) so great that it gives you a better chance of Furcacauda biting in a window with 6 casts, compared to the Slap + Chum method (for Lv90-99 FSH), which is potentially 10-11 casts. Now, Furcacauda still takes a while and the chance to bite is still low, but it is still GREATER than without Modest Lure.

We can really only get away with this because Furcacauda is a "Precision Hookset" fish, along with Antheia and Isle Skipper. Since we can remove the Isle Skipper with Surface Slap, that just leaves Furcacauda and Antheia as Precision hookset fish - meaning Modest Lure will make it MUCH more likely that one of them will bite. Most of the time, if it is a Precision Hookset fish that bites, then it'll be Antheia, but Furcacauda has a still better chance of biting than with the Lv.90-99 method.
