I was having trouble finding springs to use in a product I'm making that were to my liking so I decided to make them myself. Here is how I turned my own springs in my shop using a mini lathe.
I already owned the lathe and I made the mandrel from some scrap rod I had laying around. I also used a plastic rod (more scrap I had) with a hole drilled through it to guide my wire while winding the springs. I used spring steel music wire to make the springs. These turned out great and although they aren't very precise, extreme precision isn't required in the application these will be used in.
