My husband and I were on an isolated beach on New Zealand's South Island when my husband went to a cave to find shelter from the persistent wind. In the cave, he found an infant seal pup whose mother had left it in the cave's safety while she went fishing for food. By the time we got there, the seal pup was bored, and looking for someone to play with. New Zealand asks visitors to give the seals distance, which we did, until the seal hopped out of his cave to play with us.
