Wilson's early life was marked by hardship. Raised in a working-class family, he left school at the age of 15 and worked various jobs, including as a coal miner and a fish processor. His introduction to darts came in local pubs, where he quickly developed a passion for the game. His natural talent and competitive spirit soon propelled him into the world of professional darts.

Wilson's professional career took off in the late 1970s. He joined the British Darts Organisation (BDO) and quickly made a name for himself with his unique, fast-paced playing style. In 1979, he won his first major title, the British Open. His breakthrough year came in 1982 when he won the prestigious World Professional Darts Championship, defeating John Lowe in a thrilling final. This victory cemented his status as one of the sport's top players.

Throughout the 1980s, Wilson remained a dominant force in darts. He won the World Championship again in 1989, this time defeating his fellow Scotsman, Eric Bristow. Wilson's rivalry with Bristow was one of the highlights of his career, providing fans with many memorable matches. In addition to his world titles, Wilson won numerous other tournaments, including the British Matchplay and the British Gold Cup.

Despite his success on the oche, Wilson's personal life was often tumultuous. He struggled with health issues and alcoholism, which eventually took a toll on his career. In 1995, he retired from professional darts and withdrew from public life.

Jocky Wilson passed away on March 24, 2012, just two days after his 62nd birthday. His legacy in the world of darts remains significant, with fans and fellow players remembering him as a true character of the sport, whose contributions helped elevate darts to new heights of popularity.
