8th October 1966: Certainly not a game is not for the casual downloader. If in 2011 a broadcaster could only choose one game from the weekend's fixtures then Newcastle visiting The Emirates to play Arsenal could be a reasonable pick, in 1966 for Match of the Day to go to Highbury at this point of the season is bizarre. In May Arsenal attracted the lowest League attendance ever of just 4,554 supporters for the match with Leeds United. With this background of total apathy from the fans manager Billy Wright finally lost his job and was surprisingly replaced by club physio Bertie Mee with the help of coaches David Sexton and Don Howe. Rebuilding was the order of the day and after watching this game progress was very slow. Newcastle United, with only two wins this season, could at least have an excuse for their performance in this dire match - they desperately needed a new striker. Perhaps the wisest man this day was their manager Joe Harvey who skipped the game altogether and instead went to watch transfer target Wyn Davies score for Bolton against Preston. Perhaps something the BBC should have considered.
