The Saadabad collection has passed the four historical periods of the Qajar period, the first Pahlavi, the second Pahlavi, and after the Iranian revolution.
The palace complex of Saad Abad Museum was built in the Qajar period and was the summer residence (yilaq) of the kings of this dynasty. After the coup d'état of 1999 and its occupation by the Pahlavi family, many buildings were built in it, amounting to 18 palaces of different sizes. Each of the buildings was the residence of a member of the Pahlavi family.
Some of the most important palaces in this collection include the White Palace (Mellat Museum, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi Palace), the Green Palace (Shahvand Palace, Reza Shah Pahlavi Palace), the Museum of Royal Dishes (Ashraf Pahlavi Palace), the Royal Clothing Museum (Nagaristan Museum, Palace Farah Pahlavi), Museum of Fine Arts (Black Palace, Office of the Minister of the Imperial Court), Royal Kitchen Museum, Royal Weapons Museum and Military Museum can be mentioned.
