An Anglesey Wedding Video

Venetia & Rich were married on the Isle of Anglesey, off the north western coast of Wales. An island with a rich and colourful history, Anglesey provided the perfect backdrop for the celebrations. Although not usually known for its picturesque weather (strong offshore gusts are the norm!), on this particular day in May we were blessed with glorious sunshine from start to finish.

Arriving the night before the wedding, after a long drive from home in Brighton, I immediately knew that this Anglesey wedding was going to be something special. Crossing over the 19th-century suspension bridge, I was already blown away by the gorgeous scenery and views over the Menai Straights. I think I pulled the car over at least three times to capture some b-roll and drone footage, before I even made it to the hotel!

Morning Preparations

Venetia and her bridal party got ready at the venue - a family friends estate right on the waters edge, with the Snowdonia mountains in the back ground. A beautiful spot for a wedding, and even more so in the glorious sunshine. We found an ideal spot for Venetia to get ready, on a balcony overlooking the countryside - giving me lots of lovely footage to use. I overlayed Venetia’s father’s speech over the morning footage, as his lovely words about his daughter complimented these visuals perfectly. It was clear on the day that Venetia’s family was a loving and close-knit group, so i really tried to include as much footage of them together as possible to highlight this.

The Ceremony

The ceremony of this Anglesey wedding took place at the nearby St Mary & St Nicholas church, in the medieval town of Beaumaris. I managed to get some great drone shots of the church, with the town peeling off along the coast in the background, and the turquoise water of the Menai straight stretching off to the mountains of Snowdonia in the distance. Venetia & Rich exchanged their vows in front of the closest friends and family, and were greated by a massive cheer once the marriage was official.

The reception

Back at the Anglesey venue, the newly-wed couple made a special entrance - riding atop the antique horse-drawn buggy that Rich himself had lovingly restored. Once again, the gorgeous sunshine, combined with the amazing views over the water made the reception drinks something special. The speeches were great, giving me plenty of audio clips to use as narrative audio. The bride herself also did a speech (something that doesn’t happen enough imo!), allowing me to use words from both Venetia & Rich - giving the film a more balanced and nuanced tone.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from my first trip to Anglesey, but as may be obvious by now I was absolutely blown away. The gorgeous and varied scenery and the historical architecture and history make for a special and memorable place for any wedding celebration.
