This is the 11th video of my travel vlogs during my visit to the Philippines in February of 2024. In this episode I start off with a visit to St. Paul's University in Surigao City where they have a small museum that has different items and artifacts from the Surigao and Surigao del Norte region. After visiting this museum I make a quick rest stop for some food next door at the Gaisano Mall where there is a number of food vendors and other retailers. Once I was done eating I head out to the Battle of Surigao Strait museum in the area of Palo right on the northern tip of the Surigao area. This location over looks the Strait where there were ship battles during World War 2.

Surigao City, officially the City of Surigao (Surigaonon: Siyudad nan Surigao; Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Surigao; Filipino: Lungsod ng Surigao), is a 1st class component city and capital of the province of Surigao del Norte, Caraga Region (Administrative Region XIII), on the north-eastern island of Mindanao, Philippines. It is the most populous in the province with a population of 171,107 people according to 2020 census.

The city is located at the north-easternmost tip of Mindanao with a total land area of 245.34 km2 which is roughly 1.4% of Caraga region.

The Battle of Surigao Strait is significant as the last battleship-to-battleship action in history. The Battle of Surigao Strait was one of only two battleship-versus-battleship naval battles in the entire Pacific campaign of World War II. It is also the most recent battle in which one force (in this case, the U.S. Navy) was able to "cross the T" of its opponent. However, by the time that the battleship action was joined, the Japanese line was very ragged and consisted of only one battleship (Yamashiro), one heavy cruiser, and one destroyer, so that the "crossing of the T" was notional and had little effect on the outcome of the battle.
