வெதிரேகம் : (V) Etirēkam

Where something is rejected because there is no opportunity for it to exist. Where the absence of a visual cause is considered the reason for something to be eternal. This is about understanding that there is someone or something that produced the thing that is perceived. Like sound is made by someone or something that we cannot see, but we can hear the sound.

11:00: விபரீத வெதிரேகம் : Viparīta vetirēkam

This is when the example is said in a confused way. Where understanding is difficult from the example.

15:00 Example of the different forms we give to gods and the many weapons that they hold in their hands. We do not understand the real meaning of these things and are confused.

22:15: Mistaken understanding makes everything false. In religious doctrines this leads to major misunderstanding of the basil principles of that religion.

This is like saying I do not believe in the existence of things unless I can see them. This is not possible to see the one that created each and everything in existence, and everything created need not have a physical form.


With this Manimekalai learns the Buddhist philosophy and the rules of debate through Aravana Adigal in a complete manner.

30:00: Whatever path one follows one must understand the teachings of their Gurus before explaining it to the others. That is the reason why Manimekali first learns the doctrines of all other religions and then she learns about Buddhism in detail.

36:15 : Aravan Adigal completes his teachings by saying, You must learn what is correct and what is not correct, based on these doctrines and accept the obese that you can prove before you understand it.

Just listening to doctrines is not enough , one must follow the path and learn by themselves.

பவத்திறம் அறுகெனப் பாவை நோற்ற காதை (Manimekalai’s tapas)

Manimekalai, who learnt the teaching of Buddha from Arava Adigal, follows the சீலம்/ The rules or the path of Buddha.

Here the word “Seelam” is to be considered as the ten marks of a monk. These are what show a person to be a proper monk. Tholkappyam mentions eight of these, Buddhism mentions 10.

This is everything from their attire to their daily practices and way of life.

There are three such sets, They are Panchasheelam, Ashta Sheelam and Dasasheelam.

She learnt of her previous births, she did many deeds of charity and accepted Buddhism, she followed Buddham, Dharmam and Sangam.

Biddham : Is the teachings of Buddha.

Dharmam: (Tanmam - is Pali) Is the doctrines of Buddhism with her mind, body and speech.

Sangam: Is being in the company of other learned Buddhist monks.

Sangam means Associations

Manimekali surrendered to Buddha.
