Gadgil report is discussed everywhere due to the recent Kerala floods. This video explains everything you should know about the Gadgil Report. The report designates areas as Eco-Sensitive zones or ecologically sensitive areas as per the Environment Protection act 1986. A committee in the name of the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel under the chairmanship of Dr. Madhav Gadgil was set up in 2010 to recommend suggestions to improve the conservation of the Western Ghats. The committee submitted its report in 2011 which is known as the Gadgil report. There were massive protests in the states through which western ghats is passing. The central government then came up with another committee which is known as the Kasthurirangan committee and it submitted its report in 2013 which is known as the Kasthurirangan report. This video analyzes the different reasons behind the protest after the Gadgil report was published. And also suggests a way forward to implement the Gadgil report, designate eco sensitive zones, protect the western ghats and avoid Kerala Floods and associated disasters.
