Eight members of the public order policing unit and a former police
officer have been charged with extortion. They appeared in the Cape
Town Magistrate’s Court.

They are facing serious allegations of extortion from a Chinese shop
owner in Milnerton.

Because an identity parade is still to be conducted, the officers
cannot be identified.

While police initially arrested 11 suspects, charges were withdrawn
against two women, leaving the total at nine.
