After the death of Shunzhi, leaving behind a half-written will, Kangxi Prince Jie's book was set as the emperor. However, under the push of Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang, following a convoluted political struggle, Yunye was ultimately pushed to the throne, changing to the era of Kangxi, also laying the groundwork for numerous future struggles for power within the palace.

Throughout his life, Shunzhi strived for the unity of the Manchu and Han peoples, which stirred the interests of the Manchu officials. Four ministers, before Kangxi took full control, initiated a period of literary inquisition and suppression of Han officials, including the spiritual leader Tang Ruowang. Kangxi, due to his friendship with one of the main culprits of the Ming History case, Lu Jian, and Tang Ruowang, stood against his assisting ministers.

Through a series of continuous struggles, Kangxi gradually matured. After the death of the chief advisor Soni, Oboi used the land enclosure issue to successfully defeat the deputy Suksaha, establishing his dominance and initiating a direct confrontation with Kangxi. Kangxi displayed his political acumen, eventually capturing Oboi after a round of pressure and counterattacks, consolidating power in his hands.

The Three Feudatories, initially allies in pacifying the southern regions during the early Qing period, became a hidden worry for the court after gaining significant military strength following their enfeoffment. Kangxi's overconfidence led to a miscalculation of the Three Feudatories' power, but he eventually realized his mistake in time, not only resolving the crisis in the palace but also pacifying the Three Feudatories. With this, the realm was well-governed, ushering in a prosperous era lasting a hundred years, and Yunye was revered as the renowned Emperor Kangxi.
