One of the great joys of visiting the city of Aswan is taking a boat-for-hire across the lower Aswan Dam Reservoir to the island that is home to the fabulous ancient temple complex of Philae.

These marvelously preserved temples, the principal one of which was dedicated to the god Isis, were part of a massive international effort in the 1970s to transfer the entire antiquities site piece by piece from a nearby island that is now inundated behind the dam.

As you can see from the video, Philae is a spectacular ruin to visit, with the scenic boat ride from a small landing a couple of miles south of Aswan to Agilkia Island, Philae's "new" home, thrown in as a bonus.
