The Basics on the CIS-E(Continuous Injection System) better known as KE-Jetronic. The system that was being mounted in cars 1973-1993
K-Jetronic is a mechanic type of port fuel injection which was introduced in 1973 on Porsche 911T and was being mounted in any car manufacturers until 1993. Many vehicles used this system, not just Mercedes-Benz.The first one to introduce this system was Porsche 911T and then the others: Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Lotus, Ferrari, Peugeot, Nissan, Renault, Volvo, Saab, TVR, Ford, Delorean and Mercedes of course. There are three types of Jetronic based on their working principals: D-Jetronic(D from German "Druck", pressure) where the under pressure is carefully being measured, L-Jetronic(L from German "Luftmenge" - air quantity) where a sensor measures air quantity and the elecromagnetic injectors spray fuel based on the quantity of air and K-Jetronic(K from German "kontinuierlich", continuous) where fuel circulates nonstop at the relation: fuel TANK, PUMP, DISTRIBUTOR, INJECTORS and through the return line of the fuel pressure regulator into the TANK again and so on until the engine is ON. As new regulations start in California about ecology in 1982, K-Jetronic becomes KE jetronic, adding to the system some electronic components as well as the catalyst at the end so that the system could satisfy the ecological norms. As we could see, both D-, L- and K-Jetronic have one thing in common - the fuel must be exactly measured so that fuel could be mixed in the right proportion in order to get the ideal combustion. Although KE-Jetronic has some additional electronic components, it is essentially MECHANIC fuel injection type. As for the electronic it has to boost the system with some HP more and to provide it with lower consumption, more quite operation... If it comes to an issue on the system the first thing that would have to be checked is its MECHANICAL part. KE-Jetronic has an ECU which RARELY, RARELY, almost never fails but even if it does the car WON'T stall and a driver can proceed with his journey with just a higher consumption which with the most modern electronic fuel injection types can not be praised!!! Its greatest advantage is at the same time its greatest disadvantage. KE-Jetronic had to be stopped with the production in 1993 less because of the consumption, more because of the pollution it creates when starting a car and while warming it up(the time when a car pollutes at most).
This video is my modest contribution to all the people who would like to learn how to repair their cars because KE-Jetronic was not taught in high schools and this system is not something that can be figured out by yourself. It's a genious system which ALLKNOWING mechanics couldn't even understand in 100% how it functions so that they are unable neither to diagnose it nor to repair it. Nowdays mechanics have the opportunity to educate themselves on the internet about this system but noone would like to spend hours and hours on it because nowdays cars practically tell their mechanics where the problem lies so that mechanics can repair these cars in less than hour.
In this video you are going to learn how the system operates and you can save tons of money on labor. If it comes to the part you will have to replace it, but my recommendation for you is to by the original one from BOSCH. Enjoy this tutorial and "HAPPY MERCEDESING"
