Tensions between Hunphun and Hungpung villages in Manipur’s Ukhrul district escalated into violence on October 2, leading to the deaths of two civilians and one personnel of the 6 Manipur Rifles. As per reports, the violence was triggered by a long-standing land dispute which later led to exchange of gunfire, leaving several others injured.
In response, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ukhrul imposed a prohibition order from 9:30 am, restricting movement and banning activities that may disturb law and order situation. Additionally, the Manipur government has suspended internet and mobile data services in Ukhrul for a day. Further details regarding the incident are still awaited.
