211 train stations, 15 train lines, but only 24 hours to go through every one on Melbourne's incredibly spread out and often unreliable rail network. Join us as we hastily explore the whole network, including seeing progress on level crossing removals and SRL!
This would be a challenge on any day, but my friend and I picked one where one of the legs required a replacement bus, adding even more time! We didn't know it, but there would also be a global IT outage!
We excluded the Stony Point and Flemington Racecourse lines, because both were not running on the day that we attempted the challenge (also, the Stony Point line is only a Metro service by technicality). We also allowed passing a station, rather than insisting that the train/replacement bus stops at every station, because it would have been unreasonable to do half of the Frankston line stopping all stations on a replacement bus - the limited express service we took already added a sizeable chunk of time!
A big thank you to my friend Nic whose idea it was to do the challenge! It was a much more enjoyable outing with him!
